Hyderabad is one of the busiest IT hubs in India. With its growing number of educational institutes, global IT company offices, and diverse talent pool, the city of pearls is abuzz with job opportunities. According to the latest data, 34% of the IT industry workforce comprises women. The government of Telangana has always supported technology and its booming IT sector. In 2014, the country saw rising trends in crime against women; The Telangana Government, in association with Cyberabad and Hyderabad Police, came up with various SHE initiatives (SHE Teams & SHE Shuttle) to combat this challenge.
SHE Shuttle is an exclusive transport system for the working women in the IT Corridor, for transit safety, especially for the last mile transport. Women commuters can access the shuttle with the help of the diversified Smart App: ‘Reach Safe’ for a safe and hassle-free commute from the start point to the endpoint of the journey. The SHE Shuttle has a well-monitored surveillance system with CCTV, a lady security guard, and a Smart App for every passenger with a panic button.
Services run with a concentration of IT companies and IT Parks connecting Hitech city, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Kondapur, and other areas from 8 AM to 11 PM, duly integrating with company security and WhatsApp Control Room. The GPS tracking of the proximity of the shuttle is monitored by logging into the app and helps the user decide when to wrap up her office work and reach the bus stop just before the bus’s arrival to ensure better safety on the road.
Today, SHE-Shuttle travel statistics show that 60,000+ passengers use the service every month, with 33 users on an average trip. The route plan covers working areas and surrounding areas with several hostels.
There were seven SHE shuttle services in the IT corridor, and last year, another shuttle was added with the support of Virtusa and the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC). On average, 10,000+ women employees utilize this particular shuttle every month.
At Virtusa, we believe technology can change the world, and we're empowering our employees to do just that. Through the Virtusa Foundation, we connect Virtusans who have a spark for doing good with non-government organizations that need support.
We focus on socially relevant causes, including education, empowerment of marginalized communities, rural sports, environmental sustainability, technology incubation with academic institutions, protection of the national heritage, art and culture, and more.
