Supporting content with icons is highly functional and necessary for the buildout of our visual system. Icons should be simple and with just enough information to quickly convey what they stand for. The marketing designers have created a custom set of icons unique to Virtusa to use in our visual identity.
When using icons there are several styles available to support different communication needs. If you do not find a style that meets the criteria for your use case, please reach out to brand@virtusa.com
The most common use cases are:
Icons can be used as a graphic enhancement to lists in presentations, data sheets, white papers, or brochures.
Icons can give structure to your chart, graph, or infographic to highlight key pieces of information in a complex content item.
Icons can be used in motion graphics to help tell stories by adding animation in addition to other elements to create interest in the content item.
DESIGN TIP: To maintain equal weight, adjust sizing of all icons shown at the same time. Each icon has a fixed stroke width, which can appear differently when scaled independently. Icons with different optical weights can impact viewer hierarchy.
Positioning of the icon should be determined by the other elements used in collaboration with the icon.
Icons placed next to a line of text should be aligned centered vertically based on the line-height of the text box.
Icons placed above a single line of text should be aligned centered horizontally based on the width of the text box.
Icons placed next to a section of text should be aligned top vertically based on the height of the text box.
Icons place above a section of text should be positioned based on the text alignment of the text box. If the text is left-aligned, the icon should be placed on the left edge of the text box. If the text is center-aligned, the icon should be aligned centered horizontally based on the width of the text box.
Icons placed inside of shapes should be aligned centered both horizontally and vertically.
DESIGN TIP: Some icons within shapes may feel off center when mathematically aligned because the shaping of the icon is not balanced. Slight adjustments may be made to compensate for the shape to make the icon optically centered. For example, a triangle shaped icon might need be moved by a few pixels to feel balanced.
Icons should compliment key items or simplify the presentation of elements for a viewer. Over use of icons can cause confusion for a viewer. Icons should be secondary to the content, not the focal point.
Avoid the following to help present Virtusa consistency and build recognizability for our brand.
DO NOT create filled versions of the icons
DO NOT mix icons to create new options
DO NOT change the line weight of the icons
DO NOT create multi-colored options
