Over-the-top (OTT) disruption doesn't just impact players in the media industry, it also affects traditional telecom players that are now looking to transform their existing business models to be more competitive. Yet, as Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) look to protect their entrenched market position, they also have the opportunity to push new services into the market. One strategy that many TSPs are pursuing is diversifying their offerings by moving into adjacent markets.
This paper discusses how TSPs have used and are continuing to use this strategy by merging with or acquiring media firms to enhance customer access to content thereby better serving their customers.
