Colombo, Sri Lanka, May 30, 2006 - Virtusa Corporation today reinforced its commitment to Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and open standards by launching the Keystone initiative globally. This is the largest implementation of FOSS within Virtusa with a global deployment of over 2500 users.
Keystone is an automated Software Configuration Management (SCM) system that puts control of the development process in the hands of the project teams by providing them with access to all project assets through a central repository supported by process management. Project teams benefit from tools for file version control, managing requirements and changes, tracking defects and managing the tasks required by effective project management.
“Leveraging best-of-breed Open Source projects to achieve remarkable cost benefits, high quality and quick time to market is something we do every day on behalf of our clients as part of our Productization methodology. Keystone is only a natural application of that mindset to our own internal organization,” said Chandika Mendis, Chief Software Architect at the Colombo Advanced Technology Centre.
Mark Borges, Vice President IT, Virtusa Corporation stated, “The Keystone initiative will add tremendous value to the organization. Virtusa has combined FOSS solutions GForge and Subversion to create a powerful tool that will help us effectively and efficiently run our core business. Keystone will allow Virtusa to lower its total cost of ownership (TCO) by virtually eliminating the cost of commercial SCM software licenses required to support the organization’s rapid growth. In addition, the solution will foster greater collaboration among project team members and ultimately create greater value for Virtusa’s clients.”
Virtusans are actively involved within the Sri Lanka Open Source community and have contributed to a variety of FOSS projects, national and global. These include: Taprobane, a convenient GNU/Linux distribution on live CD installable on persistent media and several Apache projects -- AXIS C++, Apache AXIS Java 2, Kandula - Web Services Atomics Transactions, Sandesha - Web Services Reliable Messaging and Web Services Secure Conversation/Trust implementation. The number of contributions is a true testament of Virtusa’s commitment to the Free and Open Source community.
